On Saturday, December 12th, 2009 a few local Denverites and myself will be participating in a worldwide photography project. Please watch the videos below and visit help-portrait.com for more information on this amazing grassroots community effort.
The local Denver Help-Portrait event will take place at the St. Francis Center located at 2323 Curtis Street in downtown Denver. We will be out there all day starting at 9am. The St. Francis Center is a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area, providing services that enable people to meet their basic needs for daily survival and to transition out of homelessness. It is a safe, inviting place to be during the day when other shelters are unavailable. More than anything else, St. Francis Center offers hope when it is needed most.
We will be taking and printing portraits for the homeless people as well as donating needed items to the St. Francis Center on 12/12. We can use all the help we can possibly get! If you would like to donate your time, organizational skills, people skills, photography skills, editing skills or even your brawn on 12/12 please let me know or sign up on our community page.
Something that anyone and everyone can probably help with is donations. We want to make this a very positive, warm and memorable experience for the people at the St. Francis Center. Along with providing them a portrait of themself, we want to provide them with some essential items that they need. It's the least we can do as this project is all about giving back to our community. The St. Francis Center said they are most in need of the following items:
Men's white socks
Men's underwear (30-34)
Smaller to regular sized pants/jeans for men
Hats
Gloves
Jackets
Large bath towels
Wash Cloths
Soap
Shampoo
Deodorant
Foot Powder
Shaving Cream/Lotion
Any other toiletries or men's clothing
If you have ANY of the above listed items please contact me and I can arrange to take them with me to the event. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will mean a lot to the people receiving them. The St. Francis Center serves between 500-700 people on any given day. In these cold winter months these items are especially needed.
Along with these types of donations, we could also use printer paper, printers, ink cartridges, compact flash cards, batteries etc for our photography project.
Okay, I watched the video and totally cried. Thanks for doing such an amazing thing! Also, can I just say how WONDERFUL your photographs are?! Very impressed, girl! xo
