I can't believe it's over! Months of collaboration and planning all were finally executed yesterday at Denver's St. Francis Center for the Denver Help-Portrait Event! (See my previous post about the event).
Somewhere around 45 volunteers came out to help. Most were photographers, some were hair stylists, a few were friends, but everyone was there to lend their hands and their heart to help with the event.
Our main goal was to offer anyone and everyone interested the chance to have their portrait made. But the event was so much more than that. We brought donations of socks (lots of socks!), towels, blankets, gloves, food, candy, drinks for the people of the St. Francis Center. We offered free haircuts and shaves. And what I enjoyed the most, we brought conversation, attention and care. I connected with so many people yesterday, I feel like I made a few handfuls of new friends. My eyes have been so opened to the lives and situations of Denver's homeless. This experience has changed me.
I want to share as much as I can about my experience. Maybe we can do it even bigger and better next year!?
